Our new member of the SFS family is now leaving the beta phase and is generally available. SFS General Purpose is the successor to SFS Capacity-oriented resp. “SFS Common IO.” With the general availability, we are also discontinuing the “SFS Common IO” at the end of the year. For more information, please refer to the dedicated release note that has been released additionally.
The General Purpose File System allows you to store up to 4 PB of data and bill it on a pay-per-use model. This means you only pay for the data you store in the file service and there are no fees for storage allocation. This makes it particularly suitable for small storage sizes and irregular access. However, if you need more performance, you should specifically take a look at the SFS Turbo HPC type, which offers you better performance for a good price. The 3 AZ redundancy of the General Purpose File System (GP FS) is achieved via erasure coding. This enables the storage to achieve a durability of up to 99.9999999999% (12x9) and an availability of up to 99.95% and would survive the failure of an entire AZ. We will soon also be making the encryption function available via the KMS service and connecting the service to the monitoring (CES) and logging (CTS service) services.
