Open Telekom Cloud for Business Customers

“We can control digital complexity for our customers”

by Editorial team

For five days in early November, the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo in Barcelona was all about digitalization and IT. In the thick of the action and on the beach was Deutsche Telekom, with its Learning Lab and the very popular T-Systems Beach Bar.

Gartner Symposiums are known as a top source for up-to-date information about the latest trends in the IT sector. So it was no surprise that the Gartner Symposium once again got IT decision-makers from across Europe up to speed. T-Systems’ VIP Beach Bar at its stand in Barcelona showed that an event packed with content can also be fun. Here, a large number of T-Systems customers and symposium guests met for a laid-back professional discussion in a vacation atmosphere.

“Over the course of the symposium, our Beach Bar established itself as an informal hotspot. And this year once again we conducted numerous in-depth discussions with customers, ICT decision-makers and journalists. The Open Telekom Cloud, our multi-cloud platform and SAP HANA were front and center”, says François Fleutiaux, Director of the IT Division at T-Systems. “With this and other solutions, we can control digital complexity for companies across Europe – securely and reliably. We demonstrated this time and again in the Beach Bar using concrete examples. And I think in doing so we struck a chord with many CIOs. This is what they reflected back in many of our conversations.”

Professional conversations also took place away from the sand and sun, in the Deutsche Telekom Learning Lab in the symposium’s halls. Here, Anthony Clarke and Kevin Gerrand, IT experts from T-Systems, informed visitors about current developments and advancements on Open Telekom Cloud in five sessions each day. In addition to an introduction to Deutsche Telekom’s public cloud service, this was about how IT departments can regain control of cloud use in their companies, from a financial point of view in particular. Because shadow IT is still a phenomenon to be taken seriously.

OpenStack and multi-cloud management

The hybrid cloud on the OpenStack basis and the operation of multi-cloud environments also met with great interest in Barcelona. But most visitors found their way to the sessions through SAP HANA. “We had a large number of visitors in our Learning Lab, although our SAP HANA solutions on the Open Telekom Cloud met with by far the greatest interest”, says Kevin Gerrand, Chief Technology Officer Cloud Services at T-Systems UK, looking back at the days in Barcelona.

"The Gartner Symposium was, as always, a real highlight. It’s impressive how many lectures, above all exciting lectures, there were in the five days." – Kevin Gerrand

Open Telekom Cloud is secure

T-Systems cloud evangelist and architect Anthony Clarke described how to master the multi-cloud in his keynote speech. And was impressed by the quality of visitors: “A magnificent crowd and a great deal of IT decision-makers. Presenting the Open Telekom Cloud with thematically focused sessions in the Learning Lab was very effective, as the visitors knew exactly which topics were most interesting to them. This included the Open Telekom Cloud’s security and compliance story.”

The Gartner Symposium/ITxpo in Barcelona ended on November 9, 2017. The IT decision-makers will meet for the next IT summit of the analysis firm in Dubai, where there will be plenty of beach for the Beach Bar and the next laid-back discussions with experts. These will most likely be held with the Chief Information Officers (CIOs) again. Because, as Gartner clarified in Barcelona: digitalization won’t work with Chief Digital Officers (CDOs) alone. Computerwoche writes: “The CDO is good for kick-starting digitalization, but when it comes to the big plan, it’s time for the CIO to step in.”
