In this article, you’ll learn

  • why attending the OpenInfra Summit in Paris is worthwhile,
  • which topics are on the agenda,
  • and how Open Telekom Cloud is getting involved.

The OpenInfra Summit Europe, taking place October 17–19 in Paris, offers a diverse program that highlights what’s happening in and around OpenStack. Open Telekom Cloud supports the community and contributes talks on sovereignty, automation, and governance.

Open Source as a Component of Sovereignty

In the cloud environment, “sovereignty” is often equated with “European”: European law, compliance with European regulations, and similar concerns. But beyond legal and organizational aspects, other components are critical for transparent and independent (that is, sovereign) cloud use. Technological sovereignty, for instance, can be achieved in part through the use of open source software.

OpenStack for the Sovereign Cloud

Open source software offers significant advantages in code transparency. Open source communities even allow users to help shape software development and make their own modifications; there is no greater level of control. OpenStack is the leading open source cloud operating system. It runs on more than 45 million cores worldwide, with contributions from over 10,000 developers.

Since the first release in Austin in 2010, OpenStack has made remarkable progress. By 2024, 30 releases will have been published. OpenStack has matured into a stable alternative to proprietary hyperscaler systems. That’s one reason why Open Telekom Cloud is built on it. The OpenStack community thrives on open dialogue. At the Summits, developers and users showcase what’s possible with this operating system. Anyone looking to explore the latest OpenStack discussions and developments should not miss the OpenInfra Summit Europe 2025.

OpenInfra Summit Europe 2025

The event will take place October 17–19, 2025, at the École Polytechnique campus in Paris-Saclay, France. Attendees can expect a packed, high-quality program. The OpenInfra Summit Europe will also host the Gerrit User Summit and VM Migration Day. Open Telekom Cloud is supporting both the community and the event as a sponsor.

The Summit is organized by the community for the community, ensuring that the program reflects what really matters to contributors, users, and organizations. In 2025, the agenda once again offers something for everyone—from beginners to seasoned experts.

This year’s tracks include use cases for telecommunications, science, and high-performance computing. They also highlight how to leverage cloud-native tools with OpenStack, such as containers, CI/CD pipelines, and development infrastructures. Scalable infrastructures for artificial intelligence (AI) will be a central focus, while topics like legacy VM migration, security, and hybrid clouds are also on the agenda. Digital sovereignty will, of course, be part of the conversation as well.

Contributions from Open Telekom Cloud

Deutsche Telekom’s public cloud is making strong contributions to the program, focusing on three themes: sovereignty, automation as a driver of cost optimization, and certification and governance. With around 30 certifications, Open Telekom Cloud shows that an OpenStack-based cloud can meet all customer requirements. These themes will be represented both at the booth and in the presentation program.

Highlights include:

On Saturday at 11:00 a.m., Andreas Florath and Matthias Britsch will present “Scaling Kubernetes to 2,000 Pods with 10,000 Interfaces per Worker Node: Achieving Stability in High-Density Multus Networking.” Later that day at 2:10 p.m., Nils Magnus will host a forum talk asking, “Should Sovereignty Be Built into OpenStack?”

On Sunday at 11:00 a.m., Nils Magnus and Anton Sidelnikow will lead a hands-on session on “Infrastructure Provision with Terraform or OpenTOFU.” At 3:55 p.m., Nils Magnus, together with Héctor Lopez-Romero, will present “Expanded Blueprint: Best Practice Reference Architecture for AI-Enabled Workloads” in the Gay-Lussac lecture hall.

In addition, Héctor and Nils will give a sponsored talk on the latest developments around the T Cloud.

Other must-see sessions include:

  • Former Open Telekom Cloud architect Kurt Garloff: “Digital public infrastructure – government clouds based on open source”
  • Kalle Happonen: “10 years of OpenStack in Finnish research”
  • Damian Karlson (Platform9): “OpenStack demystified: A practical guide for VMware admins”
  • ktcloud: “Operational automation in OpenStack using LLM and MCP: Real-world AI agent use cases and implementation”
  • CINECA: “How to support life science research projects on cloud infrastructures”

For the unofficial contest for “Best Talk Title,” here are our nominees
(hopefully the sessions are as entertaining as their names 😉):

  • Help! I need to use Ansible, but all I have is some scripts!
  • Mission: AI-possible – Red Hat’s next-gen infrastructure with OpenStack services on OpenShift
  • Operator nightmares: In the trenches of CERN’s OpenStack cloud
  • So long and thanks for all the nodes

Early-bird tickets are available until October 16: €250 instead of €400 for on-site registration. Students pay only €25 at any time.
